Outdoors Startup Making Tracks with Wearable Survival Gear

Lost in the wilderness? Need to start a fire or catch a fish? Forgot to pack tinder or a line? Check your shoelaces. Lindon-based startup Wasatch Outdoors’ shoelaces and hooded sweatshirt cords are threaded with fishing line or a tinder strand and a ferrocerium rod—a wearable just-in-case for the outdoorsy or survival set. But while both the fishing line and the tinder would actually work in the direst of situations, co-founder Tyler Nielsen hopes customers mostly buy his product as a novelty.
